Windows 7 has introduced a completely revamped Calculator program (calc.exe) that has created enough oohs and aahs among users.
Lifehacker has done a great screenshot tour of the new calculator, that you can see here.
Two new modes got introduced in this version of calculator – statistics and programmer. There are also a number of ‘templates’ that are built-in, using which you can do your normal, everyday calculations like unit conversion, finding gas mileage, wage calculation, mortgage and lease payments more easily.
Vista users who want to try out this new calculator can download this zip file, extract it to any location and run the calc.exe file. If you wish to replace the existing calc.exe, first make a backup of C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe and replace it with the one in the archive. Similarly, backup C:Windows\System32\en-US\calc.exe.mui and replace it with the one in the archive.

I get an error saying, "Unable to save permission changes on calc.exe.mui. Access is denied."

Try googling the error message:

Nick , you need to take owneship . see http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/
Apart from this, I tired the above instructions but the program bombed when trying to execute it from my SYSTEM32 folder.
If you are running Vista X64 you have to do the same in SysWOW64 folder as you do it in System32...

Hey, for those that have not upgraded (or downgrade, whatever), you think that you could port this onto Windows XP. This is a really useful tool for people like students and teachers, and if someone could bring it down to XP level that would be great.

Thanks For sharing this wonderful windows 7 calculator. I suppose now business people will be more happy.
So, I installed it, but now, whenever I run calc.exe, it says that it is an unverified publisher and I have to say run on it. even if i uncheck the box that checks it at each start, i still have to do it.
Anyone know how to get around this?
@Wes Crockett:
Copy the Program to another directory, e.g. C:\temp\ (a directory where you don't need to be admin to write files). Start "Calc" once and confirm that you don't want to be asked again. Close "Calc" and copy it back to wherever you want to finally keep it ("windows" or "program files"). It won't bother you again.
This calc.exe (version 6.1.6801) runs in my Vista x64.
But I capied the same files calc.* of Windows 7 version 6.1.7000, it can't be run.
I would like to copy the other programs like mspaint from Windows 7.
The program is really very good.
for those who want to get the download, just go on the link:

I can't get this thing to install at all. I could really use the programming features too. I'm on Vista Home Premium, and I took ownership of the two files and set full permissions. Yet when I try to rename them or replace them, I still get errors stating that I need permissions and that access is denied.
I'm getting the same message. someone help?
